Your Time, Real Impact
Volunteering at AHT is a rewarding experience — and you don't need any prior experience with horses or therapy to get started. We'll train you every step of the way.
Our therapeutic riding sessions take place Monday through Friday, from 9am to 12noon. You're welcome to come one day a week or every day — whatever fits your schedule. We simply ask for consistency on the days you commit to, as our riders rely on familiar, trusted faces.
What to Expect
Horse Leaders guide the horse at a walk — and occasionally jog for short distances — maintaining the correct leading position and hand placement on the lead rope throughout. A calm and gentle manner with animals is essential. You should be physically able to walk continuously for segments of 20 minutes for the entire session. Breaks can be arranged if necessary.
❋ Horse LeaderSide Walkers walk alongside the horse and rider with arms in a supporting position for 20 minutes at a time. They also assist with mounting and dismounting. A warm, patient manner is essential — you'll be connecting with children and young people of all abilities, and for some riders, a calm and encouraging presence makes all the difference.
❋ Side WalkerAre you a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist, psychotherapist, or psychomotoricist? Are you a qualified riding instructor? We would love to have you on our team. Your professional expertise makes a direct and lasting difference in the lives of our riders. Get in touch — we'd love to hear from you.
❋ Therapist/InstructorDo you have skills in accounting, marketing, social media management, video editing, content creation, event planning, or fundraising? AHT always welcomes professionals who can support us behind the scenes. There are so many ways to contribute beyond the arena — and every skill helps us grow and reach more riders.
